Friendly Rivalry Heats Up
New Song Samples Available
While writing material for his solo CD, Rob has been having a blast recording some classic songs in his own style. Teaming up with his old friend Andrew Turner, the pair have been busy putting their own spin on "Synchronicity 2" by The Police and more recently, "Ballroom Blitz" by The Sweet. Check out the Discography page for two mp3 samples of Ballroom Blitz.
Second Article in "Protecting Yourself from Scam Artists" Series Published
Rob's second article in the "Protecting Yourself from Scam Artists" series, whose full title is "Protecting Yourself from Scam Artists - Part 2: Thwarting the Conman" has been published at ezinearticles.com. It should also be up at www.associatedcontent.com shortly. Rob's interest in scams stems from having been a victim of financial fraud himself, at the hands of his own brother-in-common-law, Mr. Timothy Kydd. Read more about Rob's ordeal here.
New Article Published on Associated Content Web Site
In an effort to branch out music-centric writing and indulge his other varied interests, Rob has begun writing for different web sites. His latest article, entitled: "Protecting Yourself from Scam Artists - Part 1: Red Flags" has been published at www.associatedcontent.com. "This came as a result of being conned by my own brother-in-common-law." says Rob. "After it happened to me, I began to find out that many people have been victims of similar scams by friends and extended family-members. Unfortunately, most victims keep quiet about it because they don't want to be perceived as weak or gullible. I'm here to say that if it can happen to me, maybe it could happen to you." A Who's Who of Local Musicians Joining Roster for Rob's Up-coming Solo CD
Rather than use the same players on the entire album, Rob has been asking some of his favorite local musicians to contribute to the project. So far the response has been greatly encouraging. "I am flattered that no one has turned me down yet" muses Rob. Slated to appear on the CD so far are:
Mario Batista - bass guitar
"When you need someone to play fast, technical metal, you can't do better than Mario. He has a long history of striking fear in the hearts of bassists everywhere! Mario is very picky about which projects he takes on so I feel honored that he's into the material!"
Grant Moines - drums
"Grant was the only guy I knew in the eighties who could play Iron Maiden exactly like the albums - and he was only 16 at the time! I'm really looking forward to hearing what him and Mario come up with. It's bound to be a rhythm section from hell!"
Andrew Turner - guitar
"Andrew and I grew up listening to the same kind of music so we really relate to each other's styles and ideas. Besides being an awesome guitar player, he is a genius of tone. He can duplicate any guitar tone exactly, not to mention create mind-bending new ones."
Fred Donkor - guitar
"Fred is one of the best guitar players I know. He used to ask me to 'rip his head off' with insane licks that would challenge him to up his game. It wasn't long before I couldn't wow him with anything I could play! He says that he's a bluesman now and that he's retired from metal and "shredding", but I know that he's still has it in him!"
Paul Joanis - guitar
"Paul is well known around Ottawa for his guitar work in several RUSH tribute bands. What many people don't know is that he is also a prolific composer and multi-instrumentalist. He's going to add a nice prog/classic rock element to the music."
